Basics of Python Programming for Pharmaceutical Sciences (Theory)

By Prof. Shounak Rajendra Mande, Dr. Pankaj Mohan Pimpalshende, Anjali Saini & Pragya Chaudhary

Pharmacy has become a data profession. A bioequivalence study produces thousands of plasma-concentration readings, a pharmacovigilance centre logs adverse reactions by the tens of thousands, and a dissolution run generates a fresh table for every batch, every day. Reading such data by eye is slow and unreliable, and the skill that turns it into an answer is programming. The Pharmacy Council of India has recognised this by placing Basics of Python Programming for Pharmaceutical Sciences in the first year of the B.Pharm course, and this book is written to teach it.

About This Book

The book is written for a pharmacy student who has never programmed. Its guiding decision is that every idea in programming is introduced through a task the reader already understands: a paediatric dose is the way variables are met, a batch-release rule is the way decisions are met, an adverse-reaction register is the way data cleaning is met, and a plasma concentration-time curve is the way plotting is met.

No computer-science term is used before it is defined in pharmacy terms, and every piece of code is complete, runnable, and followed by its output and a plain reading of what happened.
