Abstract

Polyherbal formulations represent a scientifically evolving approach in herbal medicine in which multiple plant-based ingredients are combined to produce enhanced therapeutic effects. Unlike single-herb remedies, polyherbal systems work on the principle of synergy, where different phytoconstituents act on multiple biological targets, resulting in improved efficacy, reduced toxicity, and better patient compliance. Traditional medical systems such as Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Traditional Chinese Medicine have long utilized such combinations for holistic healing. In recent years, polyherbal formulations have gained global recognition due to increasing demand for natural and safe healthcare alternatives, and advancements in phytochemistry, standardization techniques, and quality control have further strengthened their acceptance in modern medicine and the pharmaceutical industry. This chapter discusses the concept, historical evolution, and growing significance of polyherbal formulations, the scientific basis of herbal synergy, and their role in bridging traditional knowledge with contemporary therapeutic approaches for women's health.
