Phytochemical Composition and Bioactive Constituents of Moringa oleifera

Abstract

This chapter presents a detailed account of the phytochemical composition of Moringa oleifera and the diverse bioactive constituents responsible for its therapeutic value. Major classes of secondary metabolites - including flavonoids, glucosinolates, phenolic compounds, alkaloids and glycosides - are described together with their distribution across the leaves, seeds, roots and pods. The relationship between these constituents and the plant's reported biological activities is critically examined.
