Nanoparticle Mediated Drug Delivery Systems for Cancer Treatment: Advanced Nanotechnological Approaches in Targeted Cancer Therapy
A peer-reviewed, open-access edited volume in twelve chapters
Edited by Mr. Sushant M. Ahire, Ms. Prerana S. Pawar, Mr. Vijay V. Shewale, & Dr. Shivraj P. Jadhav
About this Book
Cancer remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide, and conventional chemotherapy is still limited by poor selectivity, systemic toxicity and the emergence of drug resistance. Over the past two decades, nanotechnology has changed how these problems are approached. By engineering carriers at the nanometre scale, it has become possible to protect fragile drugs, prolong their circulation, direct them towards tumour tissue and release them in a controlled manner.
This edited volume brings together twelve chapters contributed by teachers and researchers from pharmacy institutions across India. The book opens with the biology of cancer and the principles of targeted drug delivery, moves through the fundamentals, types, synthesis and characterization of nanoparticles, and then examines surface functionalization, drug loading and release, polymeric and lipid-based nanocarriers, and metallic and magnetic systems. Later chapters address biomedical applications, gene delivery and theranostics, toxicological and regulatory considerations, and the emerging trends that will shape cancer nanomedicine in the years ahead.
Each chapter is written as a self-contained review with its own abstract and references, so that readers may consult individual topics independently while still following the logical progression of the whole book. The volume is intended for undergraduate and postgraduate pharmacy students, research scholars, academicians and professionals working in pharmaceutics, pharmacology and oncology.
Each chapter is independently peer-reviewed and available for free download and online reading. The complete volume is published under a single Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence and a single book-level DOI.
