Heterocyclic Compounds and Stereochemistry (Theory)

By Sakshi V. Suraskar, Prof. Kavita R. Mane, Prof. Dhamsheela N. Gondane & Prof. Amol A. Ambekar

This book presents the theory of heterocyclic compounds and stereochemistry prescribed for the third-semester B.Pharm course coded BP305T. It is written to serve the student who must both understand the chemistry and reproduce it accurately in an examination, and it keeps those two purposes together throughout. The subject is better understood not as a long list of reactions and rings to memorise, but as the application of a small number of governing ideas.

About This Book

This textbook has been designed to meet the requirements of third-semester B.Pharm students studying under the new PCI syllabus 2026 (NEP 2020). Rather than treating the subject as a list of reactions and rings to be memorised, it establishes a small number of governing ideas first: the electronic effects that decide acidity, basicity, and aromatic reactivity; the arenium-ion mechanism that governs how aromatic rings react; the way three-dimensional shape determines what a molecule does; and the single distinction between a nitrogen that donates its lone pair to a ring and one that holds it free.

Once these principles are secure, the many individual facts follow as consequences rather than standing as a burden. Accordingly, each chapter is organised to establish the principle first and then to locate the individual acid, amine, isomer, or ring within it — so the student can both understand the chemistry and reproduce it accurately in the examination.
