Heterocyclic Compounds and Stereochemistry (Theory)

By Rahul Kumar, Sakshi Patel & Irfan Ali

This book covers the syllabus of Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry III (BP305T), the third-semester paper of the B. Pharm programme prescribed by the Pharmacy Council of India. Its purpose is narrow and deliberate: a student who reads only this book should be able to answer the university examination cleanly and, just as importantly, understand why the chemistry behaves as it does.

About This Book

The subject divides into two halves that this book keeps in view throughout. The first is the chemistry of the functional groups and ring systems that organic medicines are built from: carboxylic acids, amines, alcohols, phenols, polynuclear aromatics, and the heterocyclic rings that carry a large share of all drugs.

The second is stereochemistry, the study of how the three-dimensional shape of a molecule changes what it does in the body. This comprehensive coverage ensures students develop a thorough understanding of both the structural aspects and spatial arrangements that are crucial for drug design and pharmaceutical applications.
